DC-area barbershop uses haircut, shave and style to promote COVID-19 vaccines

A barbershop and salon in Hyattsville, Maryland, is doing its part to urge people in the community to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

At the Shop Spa at 5916 Riggs Road, the incentive is a coupon for $30 off a cut, as well as a free fish sandwich if you get a vaccination.

Owner Mike Brown said he鈥檚 trying to change the perception that the vaccines are not safe.

鈥淭oo many people in our community have taken the position to say no, and they are saying no with no factual basis.鈥

Brown, who has used his shop for other health initiatives, said he wants to help save lives in his community.

鈥淭he coronavirus is wreaking havoc in our community, it鈥檚 killing us in alarming numbers and I want to take a position to fight against that.”

One person getting a shot Monday was Monique Lee, who came from D.C.

鈥淚 decided to come, cause I’m trying to protect myself and I want everybody to be safe.”

Also getting the shot was Niecey Mc Bride.

鈥淚t was easy to come and I want to be healthy.鈥

The free shots are being given out in partnership with Luminis Health and the University of Maryland Center for Health Equity.
