Montgomery Co. Sports Hall of Fame announces inaugural inductees

Swimmer Katie Ledecky and former gymnast Dominique Dawes are among athletes joining the inaugural class at Montgomery County, Maryland’s newly established sports hall of fame.

The will honor individuals, teams, coaches, managers, organizations and supporters “who merit recognition and distinction for their outstanding contributions through inspiring achievements and leadership in sports and athletic endeavors in Montgomery County,” according to its website.

鈥淭hese men and women have brought recognition and honor to our community in their respective fields,鈥 said Trish Heffelfinger, MCSHF board chair.

鈥淚t is a stellar group and the induction ceremony will be a fabulous evening.鈥

Olympic gold medalists and Montgomery County natives Ledecky and Dawes will be joined by former Redskins cornerback Shawn Springs, retired U.S. national soccer player Bruce Murray, high school football coach Bob Milloy and pitcher Walter Johnson, who will be inducted posthumously.

Its inaugural class with be inducted on Friday, Sept. 13, with a special ceremony at the Silver Spring Civic Center for 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., hosted by 海角精品黑料鈥檚 Dave Johnson, who is also play-by-play announcer for the Washington Wizards and D.C. United.
