In spite of the omicron surge, the is getting underway.
After taking a year off because of the pandemic, the show, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, opens to the public Friday.
鈥淔or many reasons, I wondered if we wouldn鈥檛 get here,鈥� said auto show chairman Jamie Darvish. 鈥淔irst because of all the COVID issues going on in the world, but then also from the supply chain side, we wondered if we would even have enough cars for the show.鈥�
Still, he said they managed to round up more than 400 cars in all, including a nearly $4 million dollar Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport.
Visitors to the convention center must wear a mask and show proof of vaccination against COVID. Organizers also said the HVAC system has been upgraded and surfaces will be sanitized constantly.
鈥淭here鈥檚 always a risk, but we are taking every measure possible,鈥� Darvish said. 鈥淪o I think we鈥檙e creating as safe an environment as ever could be possible.鈥�
The show runs through Sunday, Jan. 30.
