WASHINGTON 鈥 A local doctor helped save a man injured in a on the Key Bridge.
Dr. Abdulaziz Almehlisi, an emergency resident at George Washington University Hospital, was driving home when he saw the crash, . The driver had lost control of his vehicle, struck a curb, flipped over and was thrown 30 feet.
Almehlisi聽said the man was lying in the street when he lost his pulse, and the doctor began CPR.
鈥淚t was a very stressful moment,鈥 Almehlisi told NBC Washington. 鈥淚t was a terrifying moment for me because usually I go to these situations mentally prepared with a lot of help around me at that time. I was in the middle of the street. I stepped out of my comfort zone.鈥
The driver was taken to George Washington University Hospital, and is in critical condition.
Thursday, officials said speeding and alcohol were believed to be factors in the crash. The man鈥檚 identity has not been released.
