Prepare for a deluge. Thunderstorms are brewing for the D.C. area on Wednesday with the potential threat of harsher weather later in the afternoon.
A cold front is set to move through the region Wednesday, which is likely to bring intense showers. 7News First Alert Chief Meteorologist Veronica Johnson said, although there may be some “early morning drizzle,” the steady showers won’t start until the afternoon.
“By 11 a.m., we’ll start to have rain. Most of the action is going to be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.,” she said.
Make sure you have your rain gear handy for your Wednesday plans.聽Johnson also said these showers will be “strong to severe” and are likely to produce high winds, or even hail, with temperatures in the 60s.
“We’re looking at getting about a half to one inch of rainfall at this point,” Johnson said.
The National Weather Service forecast said that a cold front moving in from the west could increase the risk for damaging winds in the evening.
But the rain won’t last too long. Johnson said the skies will start to clear up Wednesday night and Thursday’s forecast brings sunny skies with temperatures between “62 to 66 degrees with breezy conditions.”
Thursday’s weather is a sharp U-turn from the previous day’s forecast with temperatures in the mid-60s and dry, breezy conditions.
