PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (AP) 鈥 acting president, Delcy Rodr铆guez, met Monday with Prime Minister Mia Mottley and invited her administration to invest in energy production in the South American country.
Rodr铆guez arrived in Barbados late Sunday, marking her second official visit to a Caribbean island in recent weeks after visiting on April 9.
Mottley and Rodr铆guez met in the capital of Bridgetown for bilateral talks that centered on topics including energy sector cooperation, according to the two leaders who held a joint press conference but did not take questions.
Venezuela invited Barbados to invest in , Rodr铆guez said, adding via a translator: 鈥淭o join strengths, to increase the production of hydrocarbons in Venezuela.鈥
The partnership also would help Venezuela provide energy security for the people of Barbados, Rodr铆guez asserted. She has been acting as 痴别苍别锄耻别濒补鈥檚 president after the U.S. military former President Nicol谩s Maduro in early January.
Mottley said Barbados currently faces a 鈥渧ery difficult time鈥 for energy security as she welcomed the investment opportunity.
鈥淲e want our cooperation to extend also beyond fossil fuels to 鈥 renewable energy,鈥 said.
Monday鈥檚 meeting between Barbados and Venezuela also included talks on partnering on food production, boosting tourism and improving trade, according to both leaders.
