WASHINGTON 鈥斅燫ussia has launched airstrikes in Syria.
A senior US military official tells CBS Radio’s Cami McCormick that the Russians notified the US of the flights, through the Iraqi government about an hour before the flights.
The U.S. was asked to stay out of the airspace, CBS reports.
The Russians appeared to have launched some airstrikes near Homs, but the U.S. doesn’t know specifically who was targeted, CBS reports.
The U.S. is still flying anti-ISIS operations over Syria and Iraq.
“While we would welcome a constructive role by Russia in this effort, today’s d茅marche hardly seems indicative of that sort or role and will in no way alter our operations,” a聽second defense official told McCormick.
