WASHINGTON — She’s not fat, she’s just fluffy.
Well, no. Actually she is fat. She is very, very fat.
But her weight problem is getting some attention.
Sprinkles was turned over to the rescue in New Jersey last week after a foreclosure forced her owners to give her up, reports the . At a whopping 33 pounds, this 4-year-old can’t turn herself over properly, let alone groom.聽
鈥淲hatever position she鈥檚 in, she鈥檚 stuck. She can barely move,鈥 Stacy Jones Olandt, a volunteer at the non-profit rescue, told the Press.
On top of the weight problem, Sprinkles had fleas, an infection in her bottom and ear mites.
It took a dog crate to move her. If she were a human, she’d weigh about 600 or 700 pounds,聽Olandt told the Press.
But what Sprinkles lacks in mobility, she makes up for in affection.
鈥淪he鈥檚 sweet, sweet, sweet. I鈥檝e never seen so many people broken-hearted and hopeful at the same time,鈥 said Olandt who also described Sprinkles’ weight problem as “obscene.”
Sprinkles is now in the care of the , which has more resources, Olandt told the Press. And the feline’s prognosis is good.
Caretakers hope she’ll shed about one pound a month with the proper care. Eventually, she’ll need a tummy tuck.
