Re-live summer camp days with an adult-friendly getaway

WASHINGTON 鈥 If you long for the days of bug juice, color war and a swim in the lake, you might just be in luck. Summer camps for adults are starting to pop up all across the country.

Adam Tichauer founded Camp No Counselors in 2012.聽 He got the idea for it while working at a summer camp and realizing that he missed being a camper.

It started with a one-week session at one location.聽 This year, Camp No Counselors has 10 sessions at four locations across the country.

The average age for campers is 30, but anyone between 24 and 40 is welcome. The camp has traditional activities such as swimming, archery and soccer, along with some activities with a very adult twist, like the Slip-n-Flip 鈥 a combination of Slip-n-Slide and the drinking game Flip Cup.

Camp No Counselors has just two major rules:

  1. Don鈥檛 talk about work;
  2. Leave the electronics at home.

The location of the camps will help with the second rule: Tichauer tells the that most of the facilities Camp No Counselors uses do not have Wi-Fi or cellphone service, so you can鈥檛 use those smartphones and iPads anyway.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a great way to disconnect,鈥 Tichauer says.

Adults can also attend camps that focus on specific skills such as surfing, cooking or living out those rock & roll fantasies.

There isn鈥檛 much in the D.C. area just yet, but there are lots of choices if you don鈥檛 mind traveling.
