In the video short, Shakira appears on the field of Maracan谩 Stadium, joined by dancers. 鈥淗ere in this place / You belong,鈥� she sings in English, a male voice harmonizing with her. 鈥淲hat broke you once / Made you strong.鈥�
According to her post, the full song will arrive May 14.
The FIFA tournament will kick off on June 11 with Mexico taking on South Africa at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. The final is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, just outside New York City.
Shakira is no stranger to World Cup anthems. Her song 鈥淲aka Waka (This Time For Africa)鈥� was the official song of the 2010 World Cup held in South Africa.
鈥淒ai Dai鈥� is not to be confused with Coca-Cola鈥檚 official anthem for the FIFA World Cup 2026, a reimagination of Van Halen鈥檚 鈥淛ump鈥� that features , drummer pop/R&B singer Amber Mark and guitarist Steve Vai.
Mark鈥檚 rich, crystalline voice is the first heard on the track; she sings the song鈥檚 original English lyrics. Vai transforms its iconic guitar; Barker amplifies its percussion.
The greatest difference is found in Balvin鈥檚 contributions. He wrote a new verse 鈥� in Spanish 鈥� atop production courtesy of his collaborator L.E.X.V.Z, a sound he in March as 鈥淏razilian funk with hard strings, kind of like hip-hop.鈥�
鈥溾�楯ump鈥� is not a f煤tbol song,鈥� he said of the original, using the Spanish word for soccer. 鈥淪o that鈥檚 why I had to put the Latin love and passion for f煤tbol (in the lyrics).鈥�
That’s certainly something Shakira knows a thing or two about.
