WASHINGTON 鈥斅燝old’n Plump announced a recall of 55,608 pounds of its chicken because of possible foreign material contamination.
GNP Company, the parent company of the Just BARE and Gold鈥檔 Plump chicken brands,聽issued the recall.聽Sand and black soil have been found in the chicken, and in-house tampering is being blamed. A worker believed to be behind the tampering has been fired, according to the聽.
While the recall affects several different chicken products, just one of the products recalled was sold in grocery stores. The rest were sold through foodservice and institutional outlets, according to聽GNP Company spokeswoman聽Christina Milanowski.
The recalled item sold in grocery stores is the聽Just BARE Whole Chicken sold in four-pound bags. The chickens have a use-by date stamp of June 26, 2016 and have聽code P-322 inside the U.S.D.A. mark of inspection.
Don’t eat the chicken, if you bought it. Either throw it out or return it to the store where you bought it. Consumers with questions may contact GNP Company’s Consumer Care line at 800-328-2838.
