QUATNICO, Va.– It was a muddy mess Saturday at Quantico Marine Base, where about 2,500 adults and kids tackled the 2016 Run Amuck and Mini Run Amuck.
It鈥檚 the ninth year for the Marine Corps Marathon鈥檚 messiest run.
The Run Amuck is 4-mile course of steep hills and trails on the Marine base with 25 obstacles and challenges and, of course, mega mud.
It includes three murky mud pits and several mud crawls. The Mini Run Amuck is a 2-miler that鈥檚 just as muddy, though it is more family-friendly.
Hailey Adams, who just graduated from high school on Friday, 聽was running amuck with her mom and a few of her mom鈥檚 friends.
鈥淩unning Amuck, that鈥檚 my graduation gift, seeing some guys and running in the mud,鈥� Adams said,
Her mother, Rhonda Adams had聽never done a “mudder” before. But she said she鈥檚 here out of love for her daughter.
鈥淚鈥檓 here for her and her and her and her,鈥� she said,聽pointing to her daughter and her other friends.
One of those friends is Andrea Landis, from LaPlata, Maryland. Landis said forget the mud. She said聽she’s here for the beer and the men.
Hillary Chan, from Herndon, Virginia had聽never done a “mudder” before but came聽dressed for the occasion.
鈥淚n my fantastic tutu, pink tutu,鈥� she said.
Her friend Rebecca Loades , who lives in Arlington, Virginia, was聽also in tutu — hers was rainbow-colored. Loades said, laughing, that they were going to show the Marines how to do this mud run in a skirt.聽Loades said she鈥檇 be disappointed if she walked away with her skirt still looking pretty.
Both women said聽they won鈥檛 be walking away mud-less.
鈥淚 say the dirtier the better,” Chan said laughing. “Dirt in the skirt.鈥�
鈥淲e came to get dirty,鈥� said聽Chan.
