WASHINGTON — Bike riders Sunday will enjoy the scenic views of mountains and farm country聽as they get a taste of the beauty of Prince William County, Virginia for the 3rd annual Tour of the Towns — Tour of Prince William.
“We have a lot of places that are really beautiful to see by bicycle in Prince William County,” said聽Earnie Porta, who is with Prince William Trials and Streams Coalition. He’s also the founder of the bike ride.
winds through 聽the western part of the county. “You鈥檒l go through urban, suburban, ex-urban, rural, forested, town, flat, and hilly areas. You see all of them on these rides,” Porta said.
Cyclists can聽choose from聽 three routes: a聽25-mile ride designed for the casual rider; a聽45-mile ride for middle-of-the-road riders; and a聽67-mile route for 聽serious road bike riders, Porta said.
Porta said he聽聽set up 聽the ride three years ago with Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition because he would have to go outside the county to participate in events like this one.
Porta said聽Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition, a nonprofit,聽is working to connect the different trails systems within the county. The annual bike ride is a fundraiser for the organization.
