WASHINGTON 鈥斅燨n a cold Monday evening, family and friends gathered to remember a 23-year-old woman struck and killed at an Oxon Hill intersection.
At the intersection of St. Barnabas Road and Wheeler Road, mourners lit candles and wore T-shirts that聽had a picture of Kishon Wiggins with angel wings and the words聽鈥渞est in peace.鈥�
鈥淪he was our angel, she touched everybody鈥檚 heart around here,鈥� said her grandmother Angela Rhines.
Rhines said聽Wiggins was juggling school and work, and had dreams of becoming a special police officer.
Prince George鈥檚 County police said Saturday, Oct. 10 that Wiggins was in the process of exchanging information with another driver after a minor crash when she was struck by a pickup truck.
Investigators said the driver of the pickup left the scene, but turned himself in hours after the crash. Charges are pending against the driver of the pickup truck.
At the vigil,聽people stepped up to a microphone and makeshift memorial one by one and fondly remembered Wiggins for her smile and kind heart. One woman, overcome with emotion, shouted 鈥淵ou are gone to soon,鈥� as others consoled her.
鈥淪he was very nice, very kind, called me all the time聽鈥� grandpa, grandpa, grandpa,鈥� her grandfather Wayne Wiggins said.
