Prince George鈥檚 Co. police release details about 2 weekend murders

WASHINGTON 鈥 After two unsolved murders in Prince George’s County over the weekend, police on Monday released new information about both crimes, calling one of them “senseless.”

A 7-Eleven clerk was shot and killed during an attempted robbery at the聽store聽in the 9700 block of Brandywine Road in Clinton, Maryland, Saturday. Early Sunday morning,聽an 18-year-old rapper died after a shooting near an apartment complex聽in the 3600 block of Parkway Terrace Drive in聽Suitland, Maryland.

Police on Monday released surveillance video of the suspect wanted in connection with the聽听7-贰濒别惫别苍.

On Saturday around 5 a.m., a suspect shot 31-year-old Taiwo Oduwole in an attempted robbery at the 7-Eleven. Oduwole died as a result of the shooting.

Surveillance photos from the scene show a man with a black, gray and red backpack and a gray and black coat.

The surveillance video shows footage from a hotel in the 7900 block of Malcolm Road the suspect robbed on Saturday following the fatal shooting.

Anyone with information on this homicide is asked to call 1-866-411-TIPS. A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered for information.

At a news conference Monday, Prince George’s County Police Captain Brian Reilly said police are also searching for a second suspect who waited in the car for the gunman.

鈥淭his is an absolutely senseless crime that should have never taken place,鈥 said Reilly, the assistant commander of the Criminal Investigation Division.

In addition to the 7-Eleven murder, police had more information about another shooting death less than 24 hours later in the county.

Douglas Brooks, an 18-year-old rapper known as Swipey,聽聽just after 1 a.m. Sunday in the 3600 block of Parkway Terrace Drive in聽Suitland, Maryland.

Police said Brooks was standing in the parking lot of an apartment complex when several men approached him and shot him several times in the upper body. Investigators are still working to establish a motive for the crime.

At the news conference, police said despite claims Brooks’ girlfriend played a role in his death, there is聽no indication she was involved.

“We’ve interviewed her twice at this point, and we have absolutely nothing to indicate that she was involved in this case. Absolutely nothing. So the not-even-veiled threats, from what I understand聽…聽that are going on on social media should stop. They need to stop,”聽Reilly said.

There was a third murder in the county over the weekend, but police didn’t have any updates Monday. On Sunday, 22-year-old聽Damien Rowlett was fatally shot in the聽3600 block of Endsley Place in聽Upper Marlboro.
