‘Jeopardy!’ host Alex Trebek announces pancreatic cancer diagnosis

Longtime “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek revealed a pancreatic cancer diagnosis in a video posted on the trivia show’s Twitter page Wednesday evening.

“Just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer,” the 78-year-old said. “Now, normally the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this.”

Trebek said he wanted to share the news directly with “Jeopardy!” fans in keeping with his policy of being open and transparent, and to prevent “overblown or inaccurate” reports of his health.

Trebek added that he planned “to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease.”
