WASHINGTON —聽 A suspect is in custody after a domestic-related incident where the man purposely rammed a stolen vehicle into a deputy in a Sheriff鈥檚 Office cruiser.
But as the suspect began to drive toward the deputy a second time, the deputy discharged a round at the vehicle and the suspect was taken into custody unharmed, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
A Sheriff鈥檚 Deputy was initially called to a residence in the area of Newlin Mill Road before 11 a.m. on January 3 for a domestic-related argument. The male suspect,聽 who was not at the residence when the deputy arrived, was then advised to not return to the home or he would be trespassing.
Around 2:20 p.m., the male returned to the home, forced entry into the residence, assaulted the female and took the keys to her vehicle.聽 A deputy in the area then came into contact with the suspect and聽 a pursuit was initiated.
The suspect turned onto Rugby Court in the Town of Purcellville and drove around the cul-de-sac, lost control of his vehicle causing damage to two tires, and then rammed the vehicle into the deputy in the patrol car, says a spokesman with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect continued to rev the engine and backed up the vehicle. The deputy exited the patrol car, and the suspect began to drive towardsthe deputy a second time when the deputy discharged one round into the suspect鈥檚 vehicle. The suspect was not struck by the round and no one was injured as a result of the incident.
The suspect, Jake Digeronimo, 20, has been taken into custody without further incident. Digeronimo was charged with abduction, robbery, burglary, assault on a law enforcement officer, assault, auto theft and eluding.
The deputy, whose name is not being released at this time, has been placed on routine paid administrative leave, pending an internal investigation. Digeronimo remains held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on no bond.
