WASHINGTON — On New Year鈥檚 Day, the Arlington County Board hit the ground running as it upheld its long-running tradition of meeting on the first day of the New Year to elect a new chair and vice chair.

The Arlington County board elected Mary Hynes to be its 2015 chair and Walter TeJada as its vice chair.

Hynes says, for the fourth year, she’ll keep 鈥淥pen Door Mondays.鈥 Hynes says board members will be available from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays to talk to residents at certain locations during the month — no appointments needed.

But her big initiative is a longterm 聽planning effort called the Arlington Community Facilities Study 鈥 a Plan for the Future.

She says the goal is to develop a framework to assess the county鈥檚 public facilities and to develop criteria for the location of new facilities.

鈥淥nce we build a building it鈥檚 there 50 years,鈥 says Hynes.
