Man killed in Hyattsville crash

WASHINGTON – – One man is dead and a woman is in critical condition after a crash in Hyattsville, Md., Friday morning.

Prince George’s County police say the collision occurred at about 6 a.m. when a Toyota Camry on Riggs Road was struck by an Acura. The man driving the Camry was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses claim the Camry’s driver had a green light and tried to turn from Drexel Street onto Riggs when the Acura — traveling southbound on Riggs — hit the Camry.

“You knew this was different,” said Brian Eldridge, who lives near the scene. “You heard the impact itself but no brakes at all, so I knew this was going to be the worst.”

A female passenger in the Camry was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, and the Acura’s driver was taken to a hospital for observation.

The force of the accident pushed the wreckage into the northbound lanes of Riggs Road.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
