Speed limit is increasing on ICC

WASHINGTON – Drivers can go a little faster on the Intercounty Connector starting March 29.

The speed limit will change from 55 miles per hour to 60 miles per hour in both directions.

Signs will be changed March 29 in the westbound MD 200 lanes and on March 30 in the eastbound lanes, weather permitting, according to a news release.

“We needed one year of ICC operations and full consideration of the design speed and geometry of the roadway to ensure that a 60 mph speed limit is safe and justifiable,” MDTA Executive Secretary Harold M. Bartlett said .

Traffic engineers analyzed crash data from the ICC’s first year between I-270 and I- 95 to determine the speed limit could be raised safely.
