WASHINGTON – Recent findings from a report published by the National Capital Region’s Transportation Planning Board show that D.C. metro area residents and commuters have varied opinions when it comes to traffic and taxes.
Participants in a focus group convened by the planning board disagreed with congestion pricing, or per mile pricing based on a GPS in the car, due to privacy concerns and complexity of implementation.
However, the report shows that participants favored variable costs on interstates, a congestion solution that gives drivers the option of paying a premium price to move into open lanes in traffic.
The report reveals participants also favored a gas tax.
The transportation report was released this month; 300 people from Maryland, Virginia and the District participated.
