Water service restored in D.C. after main break

WASHINGTON – Water service has been restored for buildings affected by a main break Thursday in the District.

The break of the 65-year-old water main caused street closures near Dupont Circle in Northwest and left as many as 35 buildings without water.

The break caused closures on streets like Connecticut Avenue and N Street in Northwest. N Street will remain closed for several days in order to be repaved, while all other affected streets should be open by Friday afternoon.

Water mains in D.C. on average are 77 years old. One of the oldest mains — under M Street in Georgetown — was installed during the Civil War era.
