BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) 鈥� A skydiver crashed into the Lane Stadium scoreboard before Virginia Tech鈥檚 spring football game Saturday.
said on X that the skydiver 鈥渨as safely secured and is currently stable鈥� following rescue efforts. The incident caused a delay in the start of the spring game.
The name of the skydiver wasn鈥檛 released.
鈥淥ur primary focus remains on their well-being,鈥� Virginia Tech officials said in a statement. 鈥淲e extend our sincere appreciation to the first responders, event staff, and medical personnel for their swift, coordinated and professional response.鈥�
Virginia Tech later put out a statement saying that the 鈥渜uick actions鈥� of first responders had 鈥渟afely returned today鈥檚 parachuter to the ground without injury.鈥�
Video footage showed the skydiver鈥檚 parachute landing between the 鈥淐鈥� and the 鈥淗鈥� on the Virginia Tech lettering on top of the scoreboard before first responders rescued him.
The Blacksburg Fire Department didn’t immediately respond to a voicemail seeking details on the incident.
