The kids are not all right, as far as (ticker: TGT) is concerned.
Target recently ended a test of kid shopping carts in certain Target stores. The trial started out in 10 stores that lasted over a year, and the company increased this test to 72 stores last month.
The company stopped the test on the account of consumer social media complaints, detailing ankle and shin bruising in addition to having trouble keeping control of kids and their carts, reports the .
While Kristy Welker, a spokeswoman, told the Star-Tribune that there were those in favor of the carts, the negative outweighed the positive feedback. Employees, too, were not pleased.
A blogger in Minneapolis even referred to these carts as “vehicles of mass destruction” and said she would helm a tongue-in-cheek “Moms Against Stupid Tiny Carts” initiative, reports the Star-Tribune.
Laura Rinas, the blogger, told the Star-Tribune she thought Target’s move was smart in that the carts made parents speed up their time in the store.
“Would I have been OK had the tiny carts stayed there? Absolutely,” she wrote Star-Tribune in an e-mail. “But my throw pillow and coffee mug collections would have definitely stopped growing.”
points out, though, that there were those who thought the carts helped simplify their shopping trips.
Regardless, it looks like kids will have to find other ways to entertain themselves in Target stores for now. This all comes as the company has bigger issues to contend with in the competitive : namely convenience and pricing.
Target stock is down 5.58 percent on the year.
