WASHINGTON 鈥 Natalie Cole, the singer whose hits included 鈥淭his Will Be鈥 and 鈥淯nforgettable,鈥 a computer-aided duet with her late father, Nat 鈥淜ing鈥 Cole, died Thursday. She was 65.
Her first hit single, 鈥淭his Will Be,鈥 won her a Grammy award for Best R&B Vocal Performance, Female in 1976, and the silky 鈥淚鈥檝e Got Love On My Mind鈥 earned her a nomination in the same category in 1978. 鈥淯nforgettable鈥 won Record of the Year in 1992; the “Unforgettable … With Love” album, released the previous year, sold 14 million copies.
Publicist Maureen O鈥機onnor says Cole died Thursday night, and聽had no details about how or where Cole died.
She also was nominated for several Emmy awards for the ensuing 鈥淯nforgettable, With Love: Natalie Cole Sings the Songs of Nat 鈥楰ing鈥 Cole鈥 PBS special.
In her 2000 autobiography, 鈥淎ngel On My Shoulder,鈥 Cole revealed that she had battled with drug use for many years, including heroin and crack cocaine.
In 2009, she underwent a kidney transplant.
