WASHINGTON 鈥 Among the many speakers who took the stage Thursday, the final night of the Democratic National Convention, was聽a Bethesda, Maryland,聽man who received the Medal of Honor.
President Barack Obama honored Capt. Florent聽“Flo”聽Groberg for his valor in Afghanistan聽last November.
Groberg grew up in Bethesda, graduating from Walter Johnson High School, and ran track for the University of Maryland before enlisting in the Army and serving two tours in Afghanistan.
He nearly lost his leg in a 2012 explosion when he threw himself on a suicide bomber to protect his comrades.
