WASHINGTON 鈥 By this point, you’ve seen videos of parents (OK, dads 鈥 it鈥檚 almost always dads) catching foul balls at the ballpark while cradling babies. It鈥檚 potentially dangerous 鈥 heck, it鈥檚 actually dangerous. But when it works out for everyone, it鈥檚 awesome, and a Chicago fan 鈥 OK, a dad 鈥 took it to the next level Tuesday night.
Keith Hartley caught a foul ball along the first-base rail at Wrigley Field off the bat of Jason Hammel while the Los Angeles Dodgers鈥 Adrian Gonzalez gave chase, all while not only holding 7-month-old Isaac, but while Isaac was bottle-feeding, ESPN reports.
He made the grab; Isaac didn鈥檛 even stop slurping, and not a drop was spilled.
Hammel wasn鈥檛 too upset about it, later telling ESPN that Hartley鈥檚 catch was the 鈥渂est play of the night.鈥
Cubs manager Joe Maddon agreed: 鈥淭hat was a great play.鈥
Hartley says Gonzalez didn鈥檛 say anything to him about it, adding, 鈥淗opefully he’s not too angry. He is on my fantasy team.鈥
Kari Hartley says she was 鈥渁 little bit nervous鈥 about the proximity of Isaac to a live ball, but Keith Hartley says he did it to protect the baby from the ball potentially bouncing off the rail and hitting him.
Uh huh.
Thanks for the third out, man.
