WASHINGTON — Summertime is beach time, and as vacation season ramps up, Ocean City’s Mayor Rick Meehan wants visitors to know about changes in the city.
The boardwalk is now smoke free. Meehan says there are signs along the boardwalk to remind visitors. And 99 percent of the beach is also smoke free, though some areas along the oceanfront are designated smoking areas.聽
But with 250,000 new people coming into Ocean City every week, Meehan says it could take a full summer before everyone becomes aware of the new law.
For vacationers looking for a thrill, the Jolly Roger opened a new five-story go-cart track — a go-cart coaster of sorts.
Visitors will also find new hotels and restaurants.聽There’s a Hampton Inn that opened a year or so ago and a brand new La Quinta hotel that just opened a few months ago at 33rd Street and Baltimore Avenue.
Meehan says new restaurants include the Ropewalk restaurant open at 82nd Street and a Guidos Burritos. De聽Lazy Lizard Bar & Grill聽downtown is under new ownership and has been completely redone.
Meehan also mentions there’s free entertainment each night, including fireworks along the boardwalk, laser light shows and movies and concerts on the beach, as well as events for families. At Northside Park there’s also entertainment, including make-your-own sundaes and fireworks.
