A man died on Interstate 70 in Maryland after a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer early Monday 鈥� one of four serious collisions in the D.C. region that ground major roadways to a halt in the run-up to the morning commute.
A 2003 Jaguar traveling westbound on eastbound lanes of I-70 hit a 2019 International tractor-trailer in Howard County, just after the exit to Maryland Route 32 in Howard County, around 2:30 a.m. Monday, Maryland State Police told 海角精品黑料.
The man driving the striking Jaguar was killed, and his identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
The impact disabled the tractor-trailer, which led to it colliding with another tractor-trailer. The third driver to become involved was transported to a hospital with injuries.
Investigators remained on scene Monday morning, working to determine where and why the striking vehicle entered I-70 in the wrong direction. All eastbound lanes of I-70 had reopened by 9:30 a.m.
Elsewhere, crews in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and Arlington, Virginia, also cleared three crashes from I-95, I-395 and the George Washington Parkway.
In Arlington, an overturned box truck on the George Washington Parkway near the 14th Street Bridge led to an prolonged diversion to southbound I-395. Near the Pentagon, a crash involved another overturned vehicle on the northbound span of I-395.
Traffic on I-95 in Prince George’s County was bottlenecked after a predawn collision involving yet another tractor-trailer and at least one other vehicle.
All those incidents were cleared by 5:30 a.m. 鈥� just shy of peak rush hour.
