D.C.-area hospitals welcome first babies of the new year

WASHINGTON — As the world welcomed a new year, many families in the D.C. area welcomed new additions to the family.

Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center says its first baby of the new year was born at 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2015.

The 10-pound boy is among the first born in the area in 2015. It鈥檚 still not clear when the nation and D.C. area鈥檚 first baby was born.

The family is from Germantown, Maryland, and both mom and baby are resting and doing well, the hospital says.

The hospital is giving the family a special gift basket to celebrate the New Year鈥檚 birth.

Barely edging out the Shady Grove Medical Center birth, George Washington University Hospital had a patient give birth to a boy at 12:29 a.m.

The hospital has not yet released details about the family or their new arrival.

Washington Adventist Hospital welcomed a boy at 2:20 a.m. The 6-pound, 14-ounce baby and his mother are doing well, the hospital says.

At Holy Cross Hospital, the first baby, a girl, came at 1:49 a.m. A the Holy Cross Germantown Hospital, a boy was delivered聽at 2:44 a.m.

Holy Cross representatives have not released any additional details about the babies or their families.

Anne Arundel Medical Center announced its first 2015 baby was born just after 5 a.m.

Pasadena, Maryland, parents Jennifer and Thomas Haslup welcomed a聽7-pound, 9-ounce boy, the hospital says.
