Washington Spirit have secured their first championship title as a franchise after scoring in the first overtime period of the game to triumph 2-1 over the Chicago Red Stars.
The Spirit rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Chicago in overtime.
Kelley O’Hara scored the game-winning goal in the 96th minute, early in the first extra time period.
Goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe was named the championship MVP.
The Spirit played in the NWSL Final in 2016, but lost to the Western New York Flash.
