Ellicott City’s historic Main Street closing for flood repairs

WASHINGTON 鈥 A big paving project on the historic Main Street in Ellicott City, Maryland, will leave the street off limits to cars for a short time.

Main Street will be milled and repaved as part of the city鈥檚 continuing recovery from the deadly flood that devastated the area on July 30, 2016.

The city says the project is necessary to repair several utility trenches that were damaged from the flood.

鈥淚 appreciate the public鈥檚 patience and I encourage everyone to continue to support our businesses and merchants during this brief period,鈥 said County Executive Allan H. Kittleman about the project.

The project will begin Sunday night and continue until work is complete. Main Street will be closed Sunday through Thursday nights during the hours of 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Street side parking will also not be available during those hours.

The city says the historic area鈥檚 six parking lots will remain open and detour signs will be posted to help cars navigate through the area.
