A two-year-old boy died after he was struck by the family’s pickup truck as his father backed out of the driveway Monday night.
Fairfax County police said the boy鈥檚 father, Bryol Zapata, backed over the boy in a Ford F350 around 6:43 p.m. It happened in the 10900 block of Roma Street near Alta Vista Drive at the family’s home.
The boy was identified as Bayron Alexander “Alex” Zapata.
News partners Telemundo 44 , who say the child went outside and followed his father as he headed to his truck.
“I put him inside and told him to stay inside and he said ‘OK daddy’ but I didn’t realize when he came out again,” Bryol Zapata told Telemundo as he tried to hold back tears. “It was too late when I realized he was there and I had already started the truck.”
Police said no foul play was suspected and alcohol was not involved.
