WASHINGTON 鈥 A Fairfax County 7-year-old died after drowning in her neighborhood pool over the Memorial Day weekend.
Seven-year-old Fatmata Kamara聽鈥 or Effey as she’s called聽by family 鈥 didn鈥檛 know how to swim, but somehow ended up in the water at the Lorton Station community pool at about 4 p.m. Monday, reports . Her parents say she went to the pool with friends.
Two mothers at the pool helped a lifeguard pull Kamara from the water and CPR was performed, NBC Washington reports.
鈥淭hey tried, they did their best, but it wasn鈥檛 enough,鈥 Kamara’s聽mother, Aminata Porter, said to NBC Washington.
Emergency crews transported her to the hospital where she later died.
Police say the drowning doesn鈥檛 appear suspicious. Pool staff is investigating, NBC Washington reports.
