WASHINGTON 鈥 The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has announced the recipients of this year鈥檚 Kennedy Center Honors, the 38th annual edition.
The honorees, announced Wednesday, will be singer-songwriter Carole King, the writer and performer of dozens of hits including 鈥淯p On the Roof,鈥 鈥淥ne Fine Day鈥 and 鈥淣atural Woman鈥; filmmaker George Lucas, best known for the 鈥淪tar Wars鈥 saga; actress and singer Rita Moreno, one of very few performers to win an Oscar, an Emmy, a Tony and a Grammy; conductor Seiji Ozawa, who has conducted symphonies all over the world, including almost 30 years as the Boston Symphony; Orchestra actress Cicely Tyson, known for her work on 鈥淩oots,鈥 鈥淭he Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman鈥 and dozens of plays and films; and the American rock band The Eagles, who have sold a reported 150 million records worldwide in a career of more than 40 years.
They will receive their awards at a gala at the Kennedy Center Dec. 6. The event will be televised on CBS Dec. 29.
