When will the work be done on Connecticut Avenue in Dupont Circle?

Dupont Circle pedestrian zone construction will continue into 2027

It’s been more than a year since construction began in Dupont Circle, an area of D.C. beloved by many bikers and walkers alike. While the work is a bit of a headache for those navigating the neighborhood right now, the end result should be an area even more friendly and accessible to pedestrians.

Crews are working to construct a pedestrian walkway over a stretch of Connecticut Avenue in the immediate vicinity of the circle. Construction began in June 2025 and is expected to be complete in late spring or summer of 2027.

Progress has been steady and the project remains on schedule, according to the D.C. Department of Transportation.

Using a crane and working overnight, crews have been placing steel beams across the open space from Q Street to just above Dupont Circle. When the plaza is finished, it will provide ample space for community events, and it will also feature a large collection of public art the community and visitors can enjoy.
