Butter Me Up, the Shaw breakfast pop-up that’s currently ranked as D.C.’s best breakfast or brunch spot on Yelp, is getting a home of its own.
Owner Andre McCain, better known pre-pandemic for his sausage-focused HalfSmoke restaurant in Shaw, plans to move the breakfast sandwich spot to a leased space 1409 T St. NW just north of Logan Circle. It had been operating since it launched in May 2020 from HalfSmoke鈥檚 space at 651 Florida Ave. NW, but now that the District鈥檚 Covid-19 restrictions allow for in-restaurant dining, there just wasn鈥檛 enough room fo the two under one roof, he said.
鈥淲e have obviously been allowed to resume operations at HalfSmoke, and because of the popularity of Butter Me Up, 鈥 for example, to date we鈥檝e sold over 72,000 sandwiches and sales over $500,000 鈥斅 Butter Me Up needed its own space. We could no longer continue to do both HalfSmoke and Butter Me Up in the same space,鈥 McCain said.
