There were plenty of chocolatiers at the French Embassy for the D.C. Chocolate Festival.
The Gaithersburg company, Chouquette, or “sweet treat” in聽French, was among them. Their secret, Sue Cassidy said is their focus on聽what they know; empowering women, fun design and caramel.
鈥淲e have these RBG chocolates, we have a phenomenal women chocolate which聽includes Serena, Michelle Obama, Taylor Swift,鈥 Cassidy said.聽鈥淵ou can put politics in it and they鈥檒l still eat it.鈥
Just across the room was Harper Macaw, a D.C.-based company that鈥檚 focused on聽being environmentally friendly. Co-owner Matt Dixon said they’ve got a big draw this year.
鈥淕rapefruit聽soda is our big fun one that everyone鈥檚 trying,鈥 Dixon said.
Visitors also had the chance to taste chocolate-inspired drinks and聽chocolate with quinoa and Thai chili, bringing together a crunchy heat聽flavor.
The festival also featured workshops giving enthusiasts an inside look at聽the bean to bar process and tastings. Children were also able to get in on聽the fun with a hands-on session. It鈥檚 an event likely to have something聽for everyone each year.
