WASHINGTON 鈥� Many people start off the New Year promising to get fit 鈥� which, of course, means eating right and working out.
So on the first day of the new year, hundreds of D.C. residents stepped out and took those first steps toward better health at the Fit DC Fresh Start 5K Walk/Run.
It was the third year for Mayor Muriel Bowser鈥檚 event.
For Jennifer Flather of Capitol Hill, this was her second year doing the 5k. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a wonderful run,” she said.聽“It鈥檚 a great way to kick off the New Year, so many people and so much fun.鈥�
The聽5K, held in East Potomac Park, offered a scenic view to participants. 鈥淭he view is awesome,” Flather聽said. “I stopped a couple times to take pictures.鈥�
The mayor not only hosted the event but took part as well. 聽鈥淚t鈥檚 more like a walk-run,鈥� she said, laughing.
鈥淏eautiful scene, great morning and a great way to get the New Year started,鈥� Bowser said.
The 5K is part of Bowser’s .聽Launched in April 2015, FitDC聽is an initiative aimed at getting District residents to live a healthier, more active lifestyle.
