WASHINGTON 鈥 A 17-year-old boy accused of gunning down a 15-year-old at the Deanwood Metro station over the weekend was ordered held without bond Tuesday.
Devante Washington, a 15-year-old D.C. resident, was at about 4 p.m. Saturday. The police say Washington was involved in a conversation that escalated into an argument.聽He died later at a hospital.
During the 17-year-old suspect鈥檚 arraignment hearing聽Tuesday afternoon, Magistrate Judge Renee Raymond says she found 鈥渟ubstantial probability鈥 that the suspect is dangerous. She ordered him held without bond until his next court date on April 22.
When the suspect was brought into the courtroom Tuesday, Washington鈥檚 mother cried out, 鈥渢hat鈥檚 him鈥 and then fell into sobs.
After the hearing, Washington鈥檚 grandfather, Victor Leonard said the suspect 鈥渃ommitted a senseless crime.鈥
鈥淚鈥檓 surprised to see how young he was. To me, he looked like he didn鈥檛 have a care,鈥 Leonard said.
Prosecutor Glenn Kirchner says “this case gives new聽meaning to the word senseless.”
Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier said at a that it would seek to charge the 17-year-old as an adult, and that charges would include second-degree murder.
