WASHINGTON – Family and friends are saying their final goodbyes to a family killed聽in their upper Northwest home in May.
An hour and a half after the funeral service began, the surviving children聽of Amy and Savvas Savopoulos followed their parents’ and younger brother’s caskets out of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral.聽
Wearing black dresses, Katerina and Abigail stood stoically at the entrance of the church watching as their family’s cherry wood caskets, draped in white flowers, were placed into three hearses.
The funeral was held at the same church where Savvas and Amy Savopoulos were married. It was standing room only, attended by hundreds of mourners, including D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md. and leaders in the business community.
Also in attendance, young friends of 10-year-old Philip Savopoulos who attended聽St. Alban’s School across the street.
The family is holding a private burial following the funeral.
Veralicia Figueroa, who worked for the Savopoulos family as a housekeeper, was also killed. Her funeral will be held in El Salvador.
