D.C. mayor weighs-in 1 year after Relisha Rudd’s disappearance

WASHINGTON –聽Sunday marks one year since聽then-8-year-old Relisha Rudd was last seen. While police are waiting until next week to provide an update聽on the case, Mayor Muriel Bowser is weighing in ahead of the anniversary.

One year after Relisha Rudd was last seen, 聽there is still no trace of the little girl who police believe was kidnapped from the homeless shelter where she and her family were staying.

“Relisha Rudd should be doing the things that little girls do. We shouldn’t be talking about her having not been seen for a year,” says Bowser.

After a taping of Q&A Cafe at the Georgetown Club, Bowser says safety gaps highlighted in a report following Relisha’s disappearance are top of mind for her administration.

“I’ve tasked our deputy mayor with making sure all of those recommendations are in place,” Bowser says.

As for the investigation itself, Bowser says police are “right on their job.”

Metropolitan police have said they expect to brief the press on the status of the case sometime next week.
