Bike advocates underwhelmed by D.C.’s plans to add bikeways

WASHINGTON — Fans of commuting on two wheels will have a few more route options to traverse through the city.

The District’s Department of Transportation is adding nearly 7 miles of bike ways to the city.

Those looking for a more than 7-mile stretch might聽be disappointed, but the proposed 2015 cycle tracks and bike lanes DDOT is releasing do make a lot of connections.

“We’ve been waiting for this list聽for聽a couple weeks and are underwhelmed by what they are planning for this year,” says聽Greg Billing with .

He says discussion over the transit changes gave them hope for more, namely for dedicated bike lanes throughout the city.

“There aren’t any plans for major additions to the network. We’re really looking for protected bike lanes. The lanes that are separated from traffic,” he says.

He would like to see connections made in areas like 14th Street, where Billings says, there has been a gap for fives years.
