Before the big game, local homeless kitchen offers Super Bowl predictions

WASHINGTON — On Sunday, a group of people without homes offered their predictions for Super Bowl 49.

At a local soup kitchen for the homeless — the Bread of Life Ministries Soup Kitchen in Northwest; also known as the 鈥4th Street Seventh-day Adventist Vegetarian Soup Kitchen鈥 —聽they were talking football while being served breakfast on Sunday morning.

Jesse and James, who are homeless, were making their picks for the big game.聽 James was proud to tell those in the dining room that he鈥檚 a Dallas Cowboy fan. 鈥淪o I don鈥檛 have a preference. But I do think the New England Patriots will win.鈥

Meanwhile, Jesse went with Seattle.

Louis Williams and Tijuana Griffin run the soup kitchen. 鈥淲e feed the homeless, but we also have fun here as well, so we talk about who鈥檚 going to win,” Williams says.

Lloyd, a volunteer who was manning the grill, made his prediction.

鈥淪eattle, there鈥檚 no doubt.鈥

Why the Seahawks? 鈥淏ecause the quarterback is from Virginia.鈥

Russell Wilson grew up in Richmond.

Those who run the soup kitchen say things are tough right now and they need .

They’re also in the process of trying to raise $10,000 to fix some of the rooms upstairs. The church (Fourth Street 鈥揊riendship Seventh-day Adventist Church) has been serving the homeless for about 40 years.聽 The soup kitchen is in one building and the church is next door in a separate building at 1611 4th Street NW Washington, D.C.
