A teenage boy was shot near the National Zoo this evening with the area crowded with visitors for the annual zoo lights display.
The shooting happened at Cathedral and Connecticut Avenues just before 9 p.m.
D.C. fire officials say the teen was conscious and breathing.
Secret Service and U.S. Park Police are also at the scene investigating.
The shooting followed a scare at the zoo, when authorities say someone lit firecrackers in a restroom, frightening some visitors to the zoo.
