WASHINGTON 鈥 聽Movie star John Heard died Friday in Palo Alto, California, CBS News confirms. He was 72.
Heard was best known for his role as Peter McCallister, the father in the “Home Alone” movies, as well as his role in HBO’s The Sopranos and the toy executive in “Big.”
An investigation which includes a toxicology test is underway to determine the cause of death, but so far there is no evidence of foul play, the office said.
Heard played Peter McCallister, the father of Kevin, played by Macaulay Culkin, in 鈥淗ome Alone鈥 and 鈥淗ome Alone 2: Lost in New York.鈥
He was born March 7, 1946, in Washington, D.C., and grew up performing in local theater. One of his memorable early roles was as a disabled Vietnam War veteran in the 1981 film 鈥淐utter鈥檚 Way.鈥
He was active in film for the next decade, playing Tom Hanks鈥 rival in 鈥淏ig,鈥 actress Geraldine Page鈥檚 son in 鈥淭he Trip to Bountiful鈥 and in the movies 鈥淭he Pelican Brief,鈥 鈥滲eaches,鈥 鈥滸ladiator,鈥 鈥漅ambling Rose鈥 and 鈥淎fter Hours.鈥
He earned an Emmy nomination for playing Vin Makazian in 鈥淭he Sopranos.鈥
Other television roles kept Heard busy. He acted in 鈥淐SI: Crime Scene Investigation,鈥 鈥滶lementary,鈥 鈥漃rison Break,鈥 鈥滿odern Family鈥 and 鈥淓ntourage.鈥 One of his favorite jobs came in the original 鈥淪harknado鈥 television movie in 2013.
