WASHINGTON 鈥 Richmond-based , founded in 2013, will invest $2.5 million in a second brewery and tasting room in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Strangeways鈥 Fredericksburg outpost will also include event space, an arcade and beer garden and new equipment to increase its production capacity.
The company had considered North Carolina for expansion. A $150,000 grant from the governor鈥檚 Agricultural and Forestry Industries Development Fund and a matching grant from the City of Fredericksburg helped convince it to expand in the Commonwealth.
The expansion聽will create about two dozen new jobs.
Strangeways calls itself the largest producer of sour and wild beers in Virginia, and says more than 100,000 visitors a year come to its Richmond brewery.
Strangeways鈥 accolades include RateBeer.com鈥檚 Best Brewery Taproom, Bon Appetit Magazine鈥檚 鈥10 New U.S. Breweries to Watch鈥 list and Southern Living Magazine鈥檚 list of 鈥淭he South鈥檚 Best Breweries.”
Owner Neil Burton, a Fredericksburg native, says the second聽location will feature nearly 50 of its beers on tap and will allow it to increase its barrel aging programs.
