A Gainesville man was arrested early Sunday morning after a bizarre incident in the Crystal City area.
It all started聽around 2:20 a.m., on the 400 block of 23rd Street South, when聽three people walked up to the suspect鈥檚 car, thinking聽it was their Uber ride.
A聽鈥渧erbal altercation ensued,鈥� according to police,聽and then聽the suspect, who was drunk and naked at the time, grabbed a hatchet from the backseat and 鈥渟tarted swinging the object.鈥� The three individuals managed to take聽the hatchet away from the man before he hurt anyone, police said.
The suspect tried to flee the scene but was soon stopped by a U.S. Park Police officer in the 2300 block of S. Eads Street, according to an Arlington County Police Department crime report.
The suspect refused a field sobriety test.
Michael Monroe, 64, now faces numerous charges in connection with the incident.
