Flags being placed on Arlington National Cemetery graves

WASHINGTON 鈥斅燞undreds of thousands of American flags are being placed on the gravestones at Arlington National Cemetery by the 3rd U.S. Infantry on Thursday.

The group, also known as the Old Guard, also plans to place flags at the graves of those buried at the U.S. Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Home National Cemetery in Northwest D.C.

The 鈥淔lags In鈥 project takes place before every Memorial Day.

There are more than 260,000 gravestones at Arlington. More than 14,000 are buried at the cemetery in D.C.
