Mount Vernon free for President Washington’s birthday

WASHINGTON — If you love history, or just looking for something educational and free to do with the kids on Monday,聽a big birthday bash for George Washington is taking place to celebrate his birthday.

Admission to Alexandria’s Mount Vernon, the home of 聽America’s Revolutionary War general and first president, George Washington, 聽is free on Monday. It is in honor of 聽his birthday, which is also President’s Day.

“You can wish him Happy Birthday,” says聽Rebecca Aloisi, VP of Marketing with George Washington’s Mount Vernon.聽聽Washington will be聽there along with his wife Martha, and other re-enactors, who will be telling their personal stories about the general.聽聽“And just a wonderful fun festive atmosphere.聽 Free of charge,” says Aloisi.

She says you can have breakfast with Washington and take a tour of his home, among other activities throughout the day.

“We encourage people to come.聽 We encourage them to walk through George Washington’s house which will be open for tours all day (Monday),” she says, added, “we are encouraging people to leave notes telling us what George Washington’s life and legacy means to them.”

For those who really want to learn more聽about Washington, 聽“we’ve got a great exhibition up about George Washington鈥檚 eye for landscape and our education center, Aloisi says, “if you’ve never been before, is just a wonderful immersive experience.”
